CLASS DESCRIPTION: BEGINNER BELLYDANCE
This class in Middle Eastern Dance, is designed to introduce students to this beautiful art form, combining knowledge, energy and fun!
This class covers basic dance posture, technique, movement transitions, combinations, styles, and rhythms. As time goes on, we shall also cover one of the following: veil, zill (finger cymbals) or spoons technique, as well as a short choreography.
If you would like additional details, please contact me at: zsjsilks @ k3worksstudio. com. I will be happy to answer any additional questions you may have.

BELLYDANCE:
Bellydance is over five thousand years old, with roots extending out through many of the ancient cultures: India, Macedonia, Greece, Turkey, Persia, and the mid-East; as far west as what is today known as the British Isles and as far east as peloponnesian countries. These dances have origin in ritual/tribal dances, temple dances, social dances, exercises to prepare women for childbirth, and dances of victory.
I chose to present students in my beginner class with several different styles while covering the basics and explaining the differences. : Egyptian, Traditional Cabaret Style, Turkish & tribal. We have additionally added some modern versions of the dance, which are non-traditional, yet quite popular.

BELLYDANCE, A NATURAL EXERCISE:
Bellydance movements are natural to a woman’s muscle and skeletal structure, and even the leg and foot movements are predominantly low-impact. Many people believe that this dance is the first and purest form of dance, since it naturally evolved with civilization, and can be performed by anyone, regardless of their age or body type. This is also why bellydance is so popular as an exercise form.

DO I NEED ANYTHING SPECIAL FOR CLASS?
There are no supply requirements for classes, other than comfortable workout clothes & a hip scarf. Coined or fringed scarves will work. This helps you and I see your movements. It is also fun to hear the ka-ching, if you have the coin scarf!
If “props” are going to be used in a particular class, like finger cymbals or veils, I will give you all the necessary details with plenty of advance notice on where and how to acquire them.

WHERE CAN I GET COSTUMES & SUPPLIES?
I have a variety of dance costumes, accessories, and supplies available, or I can provide you with a local retailer. I will provide details in class or you can email me for more information.

CAN MEN SIGN UP FOR CLASSES?
Yes. Over the years I have had a few men in my classes. Male dancers who are serious about learning this dance form are most certainly welcome.

Join anytime. Beginners welcome.

Class will be 1 hour, Thursdays at 6:30p.m.

Discuss in English, dance traditions, styles and techniques from what is know today as the Middle East and the surrounding areas.  Learn where the different styles originated from. Where does it really come from? Learn how the styles of dance have altered from region to region, and how they developed over the centuries. Talk about the popularity of this ancient form of dance today.

Learn traditional and modern Middle Eastern style dances (what is commonly called “Belly Dance” today). Students learn English terms for movement, styles, action and have the opportunity to discuss a globally growing popular dance and fitness trend.

Note from the teacher: I love what is known as Middle eastern (or belly dance); from the ethnic folkloric to glitzy cabaret to various fusion styles. Though my favorite is Turkish & Lebanese style dancing, I have learned about all of them and have created as many fusion choreographies as I have traditional ones.
